Archery - The Complete Overview
from:Man, since the beginning of time, has made tools that can help him survive. These include equipment that he used to hunt and to guard himself. An excellent example of such a a device is the bow and arrow. This weapon has since been used throughout history. But, since then, archery became used more and more for recreation or sport, and less for for hunting.
According to studies the bow and arrow was used for hunting way back 5,000 years ago. Man gradually developed his skill in this sport, as he became increasingly adept at traditional archery. All through the Medieval Period, the traditional use of the bow and arrow had a major role in most battles, wars and conflicts around the world.
Currently, traditional archery is used not only for combat, but more for the purpose of sports and recreation. However, most of the contests on archery make use of contemporary archery gear, so that traditional archery and its competitive form is slowly vanishing. Even as traditional archery employs just the bow and arrow, modern archery is geared more towards the use of the latest, state of the art and advanced apparatus. This goes to show that modern archery is more accurate when compared to the traditional form of archery.
These days, the bow and arrow is generally used for hunting games, such as bow hunting. This game uses the traditional form of archery, but it also uses new equipment. These consist of gloves, bracers (or arm guards), chest guard and similar equipment. These not only serve to protect, but also to aid the archer in shooting more correctly.
Even though traditional and modern archery have some dissimilarities with regards to the equipment used, they also have some commonalities. Evidently, the key similarity is the use of the bow and arrow. The basic principle for the two types of archery is still unchanged - that is, to strike the mark as close as you can. Nonetheless, contemporary archery tools are more efficient.
Archery, be it traditional or modern, remains to be the oldest sport in the world. Even though from the start, it was applied as a weapon and not for the purpose of sports, it has evolved. Because of technical innovations, the sport has been enhanced tremendously. This proves that traditional archery will by no means vanish, but will just improve over time.
